7 Tips for Getting Through Each Day

Well if you're anything like me then your one of many millions forced to set the alarm clock, crawl reluctantly out of bed, chow down a dull breakfast, navigate your way through traffic. With a heavy heart you arrive at your designated cell for 8 hours, smile while the boss walks past and spend the day pretending to give a sh*t while all the time planning your permanent escape through the L.T.S (Lotto Ticket Scheme!) While some do find success through the L.T.S, the rest of us must continue on each day. It's not all doom, gloom and disaster but let's not kid ourselves, some days are easy others are not so easy. We all experiences challenges in our jobs, incompetent boss, lazy co-workers, game-players but sometimes we could do with a little help getting through. So here are some tips that have helped me over the years:

  1. Plan a holiday! Even if you cannot figure how you'd pay for it, start thinking about all the places you'd love to visit. If you have access to a computer then all the better as you can spend a little time researching! If you get caught, throw your arms in the air, glare at the boss and duly inform them they've now ruined the wonderful surprise you had for them in this years' Office Secret Santa and that now you'll need to go for a 20 minute walk and rethink the gift you'll get them
  2. Start thinking about your next career move. If you're genuinely unhappy or bored at your job, no amount of internet research for tips on getting through each day is going to be of much help. Ask yourself bluntly "If I had the chance to do anything in this world, what would it be?" Then ask yourself this question "Why am I not doing something so I can!"
  3. Write your Christmas list - its never too early to focus on the things you want plus its a better way to avoid disappointment on the big day! We've all suffered cringe-worthy gifts. Make a list and instruct family members to stick to the list. I always put in a request for lotto tickets on my Xmas lists reminding my family I'm on the Lotto Ticket Scheme exit strategy
  4. Take a regular breaks. A short 10 minute break can do wonders to clear the head and recharge a little. Leave the office and stretch your legs. Trust me, you will feel better when you return
  5. Take a 2-minute break and conduct an "Candy Crush" survey to find out who's at what level. I must admit its a lovely boost to the confidence level knowing your kicking the arse out co-workers on something so important! Bragging rights can be priceless at work.
  6. Start an Office Lotto Syndicate. You certainly won't need serious persuasive skills to pull this off. These syndicates gain momentum with staff eager to join for the promise of millions! The thought of early retirement may just be the carrot you need to entice membership. Take note, there is a good chance the boss will want to join for fear of being left behind if the syndicate wins...if you don't like your boss, don't tell him about the syndicate!
  7. If all else fails, try and stay focussed on your job and doing it to the absolute best of your ability. It's a proven fact that keeping yourself busy and occupied will help your day go smoother and faster. Time really does move faster when your brain is occupied or at the very least distracted.

So there you have it. Remember while you presently "Have" to be at that particular job, staying focussed on the nicer and lighter things in life is going to help you survive your day. Smile and mean it
